Dana Greco is a fellow Web Design student who evaluated my page as an HTML developer.
My observed user was my 67-year-old father. I felt my dad would be an excellent resource because he's been reviewing my work throughout this course, and he's also a huge sports fan, so he knows what works on a team website. He used a five year old windows surface pro with Windows 10 and a strong home internet connection that runs at 400 mbps.
My first user tester was my friend Matt, who is 22 years old. Matt and I were in the sports journalism program together and he now works in the sports media industry. In addition to the fact that he works in the industry, Matt also reviewed my plans for the site earlier in the course, so I thought it made sense for him to take a look at the pilot site. Matt used a macbook pro laptop with the latest verison of Safari and his apartment's wifi connection.
My other user tester was Evan, another friend of mine who is 22 years old. I chose to use Evan for the same reasons I used Matt. Evan was equiped with a macbook pro laptop, Firefox, and apartment wifi.

All four testers liked the navigation, but they pointed out that they could not get back to the home page from the other pages. This problem turned to be a simple fix, my home page link was not correct on the other pages, but once I fixed this error in my code the navigation worked as it should. Users liked my choice of color, they pointed out that the simple gray background worked nicely with the dark blue navigation bar.
Users did not notice problems with the code other than the home page navigation issue which was resolved.
Dana observed some issues with my footer. There was no contact link present with the footer on any of the pages, and on some of the pages the footer started on the same line as the content. Dana recommended adding in a page break to create space between the end of the content and the start of the footer. Dana also found that the Home page and the Connect page were too similar, since the same Tweets and Facebook posts were present on both.
My father suggested that I center the h1 and h2 headers on each page, since on most of the pages the content was centered and it would look cleanier with the headers centered. He had the same feedback as Dana regarding the similarity of the Home page and the Connect page.
My two friends who evaluated the site felt that I should add team names and player names to the social posts, headlines, and scores. While they understood that I had put Team A and B and Player A in as examples, they felt that even generic player names and mascots, such as the Tigers and John Smith, would look better.
Below are evaluator data files
Chuck's Evaluation Evan's Evaluation Matt's EvaluationBased on the feedback that I have collected, I propose making changes in the following areas:
Dana looked over my code as a fellow web development student and she concluded that the code looked good.
I found the evaluation process to be very beneficial to my site. It helped that I was able to get four people with very different perspectives to look at the site. From Dana who is familiar with web development, to my father who is familiar with the process I've gone through in this class, to my two friends who are not only sports fans but also work in the industy.
It was beneficial to have fresh eyes look at my site because after spending all week last week focused on code and putting it together, everything kind of blends together. But all four of my evaluators gave me great suggestions. Even something simple that I didn't think about, like using generic names instead of Team A and B, will elevate the content on the site
I'm looking forward to implementing my evaluators changes this week, as well as getting the chance to take a fresh look at the site to see what else I can improve upon. Evaluations will definitely be a part of the sites I create in the future.
